Even though I am busy 5 days a week watching my grandchildren, I get a little lonely for adult conversation. I was talking to God about this, not seeing any way during this pandemic to make new friends or to meet and talk with them. I do a lot of Zooming, but I really miss seeing 3 dimensional people.
I walk to Cole Creek most days as my designated aerobic activity. It makes a little under 2 mile walk unless I add the 800 step court side trip. I actually have several different routes that I take, but the walk to Cole Creek is my favorite.
About halfway to the creek there is a ridge that I trudge rather slowly. I have waved and exchanged a word or two with people on that route. There is one lady with a big dog, an American bulldog that I see fairly often. I have said a few things to her in passing. One time we stopped and talked a bit, mainly about the dog. The dog, although very large, can't walk far because of bad lungs.
Then I had gone different routes for a few days. It isn't like I always saw the dog lady. I doubt she waited for me to come by. But, Saturday, I walked again toward Cole Creek. At a stop sign along the way a car honked and the driver leaned over and waved at me. I had no recognition who this might be. I had never before been honked at in my neighborhood. I just don't know that many people. Then a light dawned, the dog lady. Fortunately, I always smile and wave back when someone honks and waves at me. She was long gone before I recognized her. When she came back later as I was headed home, I was ready for her with a smile and wave,
I think this might be the beginning of some sort of friendship. At least this is a 3 dimensional person for me to chat with from time to time. I think the next time we talk I will have to find out her name.
