Create

I have often wished that I had artistic talent.  My mom is an artist.  She became a watercolor painter. Her paintings adorn the walls of her family. She even sold a few over the years.  She was not a famous artist, just a trained amateur. She found a lot of satisfaction from her art.

My sister can sing and dance. Someone told her once that she had perfect pitch. She started ballroom dancing late, but she achieved pretty much until her teacher moved away.  She plays guitar and plays it well. She still dances in her basement room and plays guitar to satisfy herself. My brothers do woodwork and fish.  I think that is their art.  They have less interest in art for art's sake.

I am glad my family has recreation and projects they enjoy.  I also have an art.  I like to quilt. But, I have to say that I am not as talented as I wish that I was.  I piece squares in some sort of pattern.  Then I hand quilt the fabric sandwich.  After a while you can get too many quilts and certainly too much fabric.  But, it is what I like.

I have concluded that creating something is soothing.  I think it keeps me sane.  I almost always have a project going.  When I feel anxious or upset, there is nothing that calms me like quilting does.  I recommend finding a craft or an art and create.

Creative Endeavors

I wish that I was an artist or had an artist's talent.  I really can't draw well, I don't have a great imagination, I am not talented in pairing colors.  But, I find creating makes me feel less stressed and happier.  I pull out the paints on occasion and paint what I call garage art.  I hang it in my garage and it makes me smile when I drive home and see it.  I do have one other artistic talent.

I quilt.  I am not a great quilter.  I have tried some fast techniques or short cuts and I can't say that I really enjoy those.  I like traditional quilts largely made the old fashioned way.  I like squares and triangles and lots of white in the background.  Some would say that quilting isn't art.  I would tend to agree that it is more a craft, at least the way that I do it.

But, sorting out squares or triangles and putting them together to create something new soothes me.  It makes me relaxed and happy.  And isn't that what creative endeavors are supposed to do?

Less Words for Wednesday--New Quilt

Here is the plan for the next quilt. I have a daisy theme going on. I size the squares with Post It Notes and I really don't do anything complicated. I like to do the quilting part, not really the piecing or planning part. I am debating taking the yellow out of the middle. What do you think?
