Stretching and Growing

I grew up before stretching was thing. I never remember learning to stretch before exercise in PE class. As a young adult, reading books about running, I remember reading about stretching and how important it was. I was a runner/ jogger for a few years.  I didn't know how to stretch and I couldn't understand from books how to stretch. I had a lot of injuries, which looking back maybe were because I didn't stretch.  I quit being a runner and became a walker.

Physical therapy in recent years has taught me a lot about stretching.  I can see and feel how important stretching is to the proper functioning of my body. There are stretches I do every day. There are stretches I do once in a while. I wish I owned a complete book of stretches.

This is a time in my life for stretching and growing.  I think a couple of years ago I thought it was a time to throw in the towel and just get old.  But, I can see that I still have some miles to go before I am done. I will keep stretching and growing until the race is over.
