The Royals

Especially during the pandemic when there was a lack of entertainment options, I amused myself by reading the antics of that family by the name of Windsor.  My mom always revered the royal family.  She often referred to a visit by the Queen of England as an example of something everyone would want to see. When I was a kid we watched Prince Charles invested as the Prince of Wales as though it was something that would effect our lives.  (Since Ancestry DNA says that I am 12% Welsh, perhaps it does. BTW, Mom is 0% Welsh.  I got the Welsh from Dad.)

I have formed opinions about the Harry situation and the Andrew situation.  I think Charlotte is a pip. It all plays out like episodes of Dynasty or something.  These are lives of real people and it might be better for them if they lived their lives with less scrutiny.  I really think commenting on every gown, pair of shoes, and hair change is a bit much.  I could never make it as a royal.

I say, bully for Harry and Meghan to go off and make their own lives.  As a younger brother and unlikely to serve the throne, it makes sense for Harry to start his own life.  It makes sense to leave all the royal trappings behind.  But, I am a little turned off by all the whining about how they were treated.  Families are like that.  Behind closed doors you might ask whether you thought the new baby would inherit the ugly buck teeth or short stature or black hair or crossed eyes or any of a number of things. Families do that.  It is curiosity and the nature of our tribal history. It is when there is a public questioning that things are rude and uncalled for in my book.  I say, good luck Harry and Meghan.  Quit stirring up trouble for your family.  Let it go.

Andrew is a problem.  Men are facing a reckoning that their actions have consequences.  Used to be that powerful men could take what they wanted.  Men got away with a lot.  It is not so true anymore.  There is a price. Andrew is a problem.  I wonder how it will play out.

The queen is old. But, I have a 100 year old mother of that some generation.  Queen Elizabeth could still have some good years left. I think everybody hopes that she hangs on for a while.  Charles gets mixed reviews.

Anyway, I thank these people for being interesting. But, I don't think that my opinions should have any power over the way they live their lives.
