My fish Jojo died sometime in May. I am not sure exactly when. I noticed that his swimming got sort of lopsided and then I stopped seeing him. Unfortunately, I was really busy then and I have these moss ball that he hid in, so I wasn't completely sure he was dead. Eventually I reached a point where I didn't really want to fish around for him. My grandson asked to feed the fish several times during this period and we did put food in the bowl. But no fish swam out to eat, so I was pretty sure that he was gone.
A week or so ago I decided to fish out the fish dead body and start over. I couldn't find the body. Maybe it is absorbed by the moss balls. Maybe he jumped instead of dying in the bowl. I am not sure. But I got a new betta. He is red. I think I will call him Rory. I have rewatched the Gilmore Girls during the pandemic and Rory is a perfectly good boy's name.
I considered switching to the cheaper messier $.31 goldfish or even cheaper minnow, but I decided to give a betta another try. I have decided that being in the same room with the parakeets is not good for fish. A film builds up on the top of the bowl in less than a week. I am not sure if this is dust from the bird seed or biofilm, but regardless, I think that the fish would be better off elsewhere. So, I plan for him to reside in the master bathroom.
