Entertaining a three year old and a one year old can have its challenges. Little granddaughter who is one likes to be the center of attention. She often doesn't understand why her brother likes something, but she knows what he likes. And he likes trucks. The bigger, noisier, the better when it comes to trucks.
Trash truck day at my grandson's house in Tuesday. There are two pick ups that day, recycling and trash. The recycling truck comes first and often has already picked up before 8 am and I miss it. But the trash truck comes in the middle of the morning. We wait outside in anticipation of his arrival. He waves and honks. Trash trucks are shiny according to my grandson.
The mail truck comes by about one. My grandson likes to check the mail. He waves at the postman and they often exchange greetings. If Mom goes out to check the mail during my grandson's nap, he is devastated. Devastated.
Last week we had a special treat that doesn't happen often. The city tree trimmers came by to lop off some of the tree by the street in front of my grandson's house. There was a man in a lift bucket with a chainsaw. There was a chipper machine. There were three men in bright yellow-green shirts. It was a pageant of grand proportion. They worked on it long enough that we even got bored and did something else. But, it provided entertainment for a good long while.
My grand daughter doesn't really see what it so exciting about all of these noisy truck things. But, she wants to see, to be part of it. She is trying to understand what it is all about.
