Statistic

Sunday afternoon a friend of mine passed away from Covid.  He had been doing better, was about to be released from the hospital on Thursday and suddenly took a turn for the worse.  He was on a ventilator and not conscious when he died which is a blessing, perhaps. He was a little younger than I am.  He had back problems a few years ago and lost a bunch of weight.  There may have been other health issues, I didn't know that much about his health. But, I am saddened and stunned by his death. I had been under the delusion that they were getting better at treating Covid and fewer people died.  But, he was in the hospital, I am sure they were doing everything they could for him.

It feels to me that we folks over 60 are like fish in a barrel.  The virus is picking us off one by one.  We are easy targets.  I wonder if everyone wore masks and socially distanced if we could bring the virus numbers down and under control.  Or is it just too smart for us?

My friend is just a statistic.  One more Covid death, underlying conditions, over 60.  But, he was a great guy, inspirational.  He helped a lot of people.  He was a friend to many, a hard worker.  He will be missed.  he died too soon.
