Face Masks

I have sewn a bunch a face masks.  I made some for my son and his wife.  I am looking for a child's pattern for my grandson who will turn two this summer.  Face masks are pretty easy to make.  I have lots of extra fabric, so making masks is a natural activity.

That being said, face masks aren't that comfortable to wear for long periods.  Or even for short periods sometimes.  Some of the masks hurt my ears.  Others get floppy and useless when worn for a while. They fog my glasses.  I understand why some people don't want to wear them.

But, the face mask is one thing that everyone can do to protect each other from this virus.  I have seen the demonstrations that show that the masks protect other people from getting the virus from me, more than the mask protects me from them.  But, it does protect me to some degree.  I wish everyone would wear masks.

As things open up, I sometimes think about things I might like to shop for, like HVAC filters and millet for the parakeets.  I might go out at a less busy time to shop for these items.  But, I worry about whether the other people shopping or selling will be masked.  I stay home for the most part. Other people are a threat, less so if they are masked.  I have no control over other people.  I stay home.

I am sorry that the masks have become such a political flash point.  I am sorry that something so simple and generous to others makes some people go into rage.  I am sorry that people think because the virus is unlikely to kill them, that other people don't matter.

For the foreseeable future I will be wearing a mask.  I will largely be staying home, avoiding other people.  I will be socially distanced.  If I can give you any advice, wear a face mask when you are out and about.  Do it for me.  Do it for you.
