My grandson came over last weekend to help me decorate the tree. I had the tree up, the lights and garland on. I brought the boxes of ornaments up. I got out the cloth and plastic ones first. These are not necessarily the ones I usually put on my tree. I have some plastic balls that I use to fill in places, but most of my favorite ornaments are more precious. I have shells from Hawaii, and things from Japan and so forth. I left those in the box for the time being.
My grandson was anxious to get busy on the tree. One thing he did right away was take the picture of his daddy off the star ornament that was made so many years ago when Daddy was in kindergarten. It is easy to fix, so I put it up and explained that the picture was his daddy. AJ hung shiny plastic balls and stuffed ornaments. I have some of Dole fruit that I once sent in for. I even let him climb up a step. Then in his three year old mind he was done. I mean he was really done. He came over and careful closed each box of ornaments. Then he moved down the hall toward the toy room. The tree was done.
I am debating whether I should "finish" decorating and get out some of my more precious favorite ornaments. Or should I leave it as it is? Right now the closed boxes of decorations are still in my living room. I think I might have better things to do than to decorate the tree some more.
But, one thing I know. I am training this grandson right. Coming over to decorate Grandma's tree is going to become a tradition.
