The Folly of Trying to Change Someone's Mind

I do some social media.  I try to keep my presence small on social media.  I want to see the children and grandchildren grow up. I want a little contact with relatives. I am not interested in politics on social media or joining someone's else's religion.  In fact, if a person posts politics, I snooze them.  If they do it again, I likely unfriend them.  It keeps my social media the way I like it, small and personal.

Recently, I was reminded of my policy when a family member once again posted a political post.  I suppose that my standards can be lax if I agree with the politics, but if I disagree, I don't intend to have a discussion on social media.  I just cut the person loose.

I have a decision to make.  This relative is a close relative.  They have had some issues in the past.  They know my opinion on politics on social media.  I am thinking of unfriending this person.  They might figure it out eventually and I am sure it would make them hurt and angry.  Is it worth creating upset so that my social media is the way I like it.  If I unfriend this person, I won't have to look at offensive posts and snooze them.  But unfriending would probably be seen as a hostile act.  Do I want to do something to cause conflict?

So, even though I would like to Unfriend, Unfriend....I guess I will hang on and just continue to snooze that person. I can't change that person's mind and there is no way they could ever change mine to the cause that offends me, but avoiding conflict, hatred, anger is a value unto itself.
