The Cold Winds Blow

The fall this year was warm.  The trees still have some leaves.  There were temperatures up in the 80s until a couple of weeks ago. My grass is still growing, I am still paying for mowing. I had the heat system checked.  I started up the humidifier in my bedroom.  I am getting ready for winter.

And right on time, or perhaps a little late, the wind started to blow and temperatures dropped and dropped. It is now cold.  The wind started blowing and it chilled things down. Way down.  Snow flakes blew through the air.  They didn't accumulate, but I saw them.

The snow flakes reminded me of my early years.  I grew up in northern Illinois.  My family would bet a cookie whether it would snow before my birthday which is mid November.  It was always fun to see who was right in guessing whether it would snow.

Most years it would not snow by mid November, but sometimes it would snow.  Snow, I remember that I used to be so excited to see snow.  These days, not so much. Snow is cold. The older I get, the less I like the snow.

The cold winds blow every year.  The sooner they blow, winter will come and go.  Spring, I look forward to spring again.
