My grandson has good manners. I am not sure where he learned them. I spent most of the first three years of his life with him and I am moderate in my use of manners. I don't always remember to say "You're welcome," after a casual "Thank You." So, for example if I sneeze and somebody says "bless you," I may not say "thank you." And after the "thank you" I may not say "you're welcome."
But, my grandson does. It is a game we play. I pretend sneeze and we run through the script. He always says thank you and you're welcome. I tried to do it in Japanese, but he wasn't into that. You're welcome in Japanese sounds similar to "Don't touch my mustache." My grandson is not amused. He does like "be careful" in Japanese. I have used that since he was tiny. He won't be bi-lingual, but exposure to a different language can't hurt.
And I will say, even though I take no credit, that my grandson has very good manners.
