As I watch the confederate statues being torn down and names of places being changed because the namesake was a slaveholder, I say, it's about time. I have always thought there was a great deal of injustice in honoring generals who fought against our country. What about the men and boys who died trying to preserve the nation? Where are their statues? Sometimes it takes a while for conscience to wake up and for things to change.
I have been looking for a dog for a while. I own a couple of birds and a fish. There are rescue groups for these animals. Sometimes they work to save little birds who need daily breathing treatments for the rest of their lives or dogs who are paralyzed. These are not bad things. But, I wonder if some people lose sight of the fact that these creatures are animals. They are not the same as people.
I listen to the pro-life and pro-abortion stances. It seems to me that the reason for allowing abortion has to do with getting what one wants, a selfish motivation. If we can save birds and dogs and even fish in rescue groups, how can we not recognize the humanity in a human fetus? How can we not ban the killing of human babies? I really don't know.
I heard some very convincing sounding woman talking about reproductive rights and her argument didn't make sense to me. I would argue that women have lots of choice, in birth control, in abstinence, before they would get to the point of the inconvenience of a pregnancy. And after that mistake is made, is nine months too long to give up space in one's body to save a human life?
I don't see the end to abortion in this country happening soon. I really don't, I am sorry to say. But, I wonder if somewhere down the road, there will be a recognition of the humanity being lost? I wonder if abortion will be seen like the Third Reich or slavery? I wonder if abortion will be seen for what it is, a crime against humanity?
