My granddaughter just turned one. She is quite the character. While she does say a few words, among them, "Dada," she is not a big talker yet. She squeals and screams more than she talks. She is absolutely gifted at turning on the waterworks. She can have real tears for such small slights as the desire for another piece of grape, right now!
But, lack of words doesn't stop her from communicating. She likes to go outside. Often she will start the morning by bringing me her shoes. We rarely go outside first thing because it is still a little chilly in the morning. Then she will bring me her jacket. Then her brother's jacket. Because I often am still not getting the message, she even brought me my shoes the other day. When we finally go outside she looks triumphantly at me as if to say, "You finally got the message."
