My grandson is so two these days. He really likes to say "No, nokay." He likes to say no to diaper changes, to coming inside, to following rules, to any number of things. But, he doesn't like to be told no. I have found it most effective to get him to look at me, say no and shake my head. He really doesn't like that. In fact, he dislikes it so much that he will sometimes try screaming a blood curdling scream, not unlike his baby sister's scream. I tell him no to that as well. Usually he stops.
I have asked his parents what their plan is. So, far they plan to reason with him. Since he is a reasonable kid this has worked to some extent. Maybe it will always continue to work. I notice though that he gets away with a lot of stuff because they choose their battles and rarely make a stand. I wonder how this will work going forward.
But, the great thing about being a Grandma is, I don't have to worry about it. He won't be ignoring curfew or wrecking my car when he is a teenager. I don't have to worry about it, that is his parents' job. I love being a grandma.
