Independence Day

Happy birthday, America.  You are getting to be an old lady.  I think your youth is behind you, but I hope you have good days ahead.  If I could give you a gift, it would be unity.  We need more unity.  We need to disagree without being disagreeable or hateful.  We need to find common ground.  We need to be patient with each other.  We need to respect each other and our right to exist, even when we are wrong, or stupid or dumb.

Today there is a lot of stress.  People forget what America means, or think it means crazy things like that they can do whatever they want to whenever they want to.  Responsibility, personal responsibility, that is what we have and what leads to freedom.  We need to love one another.

So, strike up the band, shoot off some fireworks (but not in my neighborhood). and consider the meaning of America, the meaning of freedom, and rights and responsibilities that we all enjoy.
