O Emmanuel--Come to save us, Lord our God!
God is with us. I need to remind myself that God is with me. God has gone before me. He knows my day before I walk through it. God has saved me. God is saving me. God has come. God is coming.
"and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit..."(Romans 5:5)
O Emmanuel--Come to save us, Lord our God!
God is with us. I need to remind myself that God is with me. God has gone before me. He knows my day before I walk through it. God has saved me. God is saving me. God has come. God is coming.
O King of all nations--Come and save man!
Unity and peace, love and forgiveness, people need to learn this. I need to examine the depths of my heart and find all the judgements and prejudice that hide there. I need to love fully. I need to promote and appreciation for all of humanity.
O Radiant Dawn--Come and shine on those who dwell in darkness.
This is a dark time of year. The sun goes down early and the nights are long. It feels like I dwell in darkness. But, with the dawn comes promise of hope and a new beginning. Help me to keep hope in my heart.
O Key of David--Come and free the prisoners of darkness!
I am a collector of keys. Keys make me smile. Keys invite me to enter. Keys are freedom. God, You have opened doors for me. You have walked through the tight places with me. You have opened doors. Help me to open doors for others. Help me to walk through the door to You.
O Root of Jesse's stem--Come save us without delay!
The roots of my life reach into faith. My roots are grounded in belief in God. Help me to strengthen those roots. Help me to pass that faith onto all the people I meet. Help me to have strong roots.
O Leader--Come to rescue us with your mighty power!
I need to be rescued from my own mind sometimes. I defeat myself by worry and fear. The committee in my head can make me feel lost and sad. Lead me, Lord. Lead me to recognize You in my life. Lead me to discard the voices that tell me that I am not enough.
Come rescue me!
O Wisdom---Come to teach us the path of knowledge.
Help me to remember to stop and pray. Help me to remember that I can't fix everything. That I can't fix anything on my own. I need the wisdom and grace to consider what You have placed before me this day. Wisdom, come and teach me the path of knowledge.
O Emmanuel, our king and our lawgiver, the hope of the nations and their Savior: Come and save us, O Lord our God.
Lord, I hope in You. If I could, I would give Your hope out to the world. All I can do is to reflect, to echo. Save me, save us. I hope in You.
O King of the Nations, and their desire, the cornerstone making both one: Come and save the human race, which You fashioned from clay.
Help me to desire You above all things. Help me to desire Your Holy Will for all my life. Help me to carry You with me in my day. Save me, Lord.
O Sunrise, splendor of the light eternal and sun of righteousness: Come and enlighten those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.
Lord, such a dark time of year. The sun disappears before the day is over. Night rules. Send Your dawn of righteousness. Send Your Son. Send Your Light!
O Key of David and scepter of the house of Israel; you open and no one can shut and no one can open; come and lead the prisoners from the prison house, those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.
Come and rescue me from the specter of this virus. Come rescue me from fear and loneliness. Come be with me in my isolation and bring me forth into light. Save us, Lord. You are the key.
O Root of Jesse, standing as a sign among the peoples; before you kings will shut their mouths, to you the nations will make their prayer: Come and deliver us, and delay no longer.
Lord, waiting is hard. The "kings" of our present world show very little regard for You. Stand with me. Deliver me from evil. Deliver me from fear. I await Your return.
O Adonai and the leader of the house of Israel, who appeared to Moses in the fire of the burning bush and gave him the law on Mount Sinai: Come and redeem us with an outstretched arm.
Appear to me God, appear in the people I meet, the journey that I take each day. Help me to walk with You. Help me to follow Your laws and to believe in and teach Your truths.
Today the Church begins the 7 O Antiphons which give voice to our hope and longing for the coming of Christ at Christmas and the hope for His return at the end of the world. The song O Come, O Come, Emmanuel gives voice to the O Antiphons.
O Wisdom coming forth from the mouth of the Most High, reaching from one end to the other, mightily, and sweetly ordering all things: Come and teach us the way of prudence.
Teach me to seek God's will for my life. Teach me to let go of control. Teach me to trust. Even when all things seem out of control, trust You God who ordered all things.
