Independence Day

The Fourth of July is not my favorite holiday.  Back in the olden days when I was young, we went out to see the fireworks.  At our house in Rockford, IL when I was really little, we could see the fireworks from our house way in the distance.  I liked seeing the professional fireworks shows.  We had picnics and ate watermelon.  That was a holiday I could get my head around.

But, more and more through the years, people have to buy their own fireworks displays, not just set off a few firecrackers and roman candles, but displays that last and last.  These displays are illegal, but what is legal if there is no enforcement?

I worry about people getting hurt.  I worry about these people setting houses (like my own house) on fire.  I saw a house burn to the ground from fireworks when we lived in Hawaii. I don't really enjoy the noise.  I don't feel like it is safe,  So, I hunker down in my house while the wars rage around me.

I could do without so many fireworks on the Fourth of July.  I really could.
