Garden Woes

I tried to raise rhubarb for two years.  The slugs ate it to nubs, there was nothing left.  Even when I used slug bait, I never got stalks enough to eat rhubarb from my little garden.  I planted zucchini because in this climate everybody can grow zucchini, right?  I had a pollinator problem.  I got many blooms, but only one zucchini.  I did get a few beans, like maybe 3 or four servings for one person in the course of the summer.  I did get about 6 tomatoes, only from the Big Boy, the other, more special tomatoes produced nothing.  Last year I planted a thornless blackberry and herbs, mint, thyme and oregano.  The blackberry looked promising but the rabbits are eating it to nothing.  They are leaving the herbs alone.

So, this year I bought a bag of onion sets.  They are growing, the slugs and the rabbits have left the onions alone.  I may actually get a bumper crop of onions from my garden, yay!  I also threw in some beans and a tomato plant.  I think I am done.  I always start with optimism, and then get really disappointed by my garden.  This year I am trying not to expect much and maybe I won't be disappointed. Snails and rabbits, oh, my!
