Ascension

Acts 1:10-11 "While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said," Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.""

That must have been a sight to see.  Christ rising in His body up to heaven.  It would be hard to look away.  I think I would have kept watching for Him to come right back down.  Those angels distracted the apostles and helped them to move on.  And what did they move on to do?  They prayed.  They prayed until Pentecost.

Lately, around here we have been watching the sky for wall clouds and storm clouds and lightning.  It has been a stormy rainy patch of weather.  But today is Ascension.  It is time to stop looking at the sky.  It is time for prayer.  It is time to pray for the Holy Spirit to stir us up and make us bold in our witness.  It is time to pray.

My real bricks and stones church is encouraging families to pray for the nine days between Ascension and Pentecost at home.  Praying for nine days is called a Novena and the Holy Spirit Novena is the oldest one in Christianity.  There are many good versions of the Pentecost Novena that can be reached on the web.  But the main thing is to pray.  Don't waste your time looking at the sky.  Jesus will return.  Will you be ready?
