My Christmas cacti didn't bloom this year. I am not careful enough about lack of light and cool temps and when to water and when to fertilize.
These plants need long dark nights and cool temperatures and a dry spell to get it together to bloom.
They bloom from the new growth and they are very slow growers so new growth doesn't happen every year.
Christmas/ Thanksgiving cactus don't have leaves. The flowers come off the segmented stems.
I have never smelled an aroma from these blooms. But they are a lovely surprise when they happen. (And I hope that will be next year.) (Or later this year as a Lenten surprise?)
