The Phone

I considered for a long time before I upgraded my phone and joined the "Smart" phone world.  I waited until my carrier had iPhones available.  I had decided that was the way I wanted to go because everybody who had them seemed to love them.  I didn't hear anyone with an iPhone say, in two years I will upgrade to an Android. Or, I sure wish I had my flip phone back. (Except my brother who kills phones as a hobby and he is no longer allowed by his wife to have a smart phone.)

But, me, I am not an Apple kind of gal.  I have an iPod that sits mainly in the drawer.  I thought I would listen to books on it, but that hasn't happened.  If I listen to books, it is usually the CD player in the car, and not the iPod.  I don't like the ear buds.  And I hate hate hate the iTunes store or whatever it is called.  It feels like an alternate universe when I am trying to do something in that "store."  For that reason, I wasn't sure the iPhone was for me, despite the fact you could use it as a flashlight, as demonstrated by a colleague of mine.  I carry a flashlight, thank you very much and that isn't what I need a phone for.

But, I had decided that iPhone might be it.  I went to the carrier's store to get one and the guy told me how much better this smart phone was, unless you loved the iTunes store and the whole Apple universe.  Well, I knew where I stood on that.  So, I ended up getting a Samsung Galaxy SII.  It has a huge screen and a lot of memory.  It is a pretty cool phone.  I am still learning things about it.

I look forward to giving it voice commands and having it give me directions to places.  I doubt I will watch many movies on it.  But, if I need to look up a flight time or an email on the road, I am set.  And despite my tendency to name objects that I use a lot, I haven't named this baby yet.

But, I have tried to give the command--"Beam me up, Scotty."  (So far, no luck with that one.)

What? Beam me up Scotty doesn't work. You know, it works with my iPhone.

Actually when I turned the phone the right way and said "engage" we took a trip around the galaxy.

I kind of regret not having Siri. I hear that she is extremely polite.
