Eagle's Wings

Here along the middle Mississippi River we have the winter gift of blad eagles.  They come down from the north to fish in our rivers.  They like to hang around locks and dams where the fish are easily spotted.  It has not been a very cold winter and I doubt the Mississippi is frozen solid very far north, so we don't have a lot of eagles around here yet.  Maybe we won't if it stays mild all winter.  But, ther are a few.

My hubby and I went up on Sunday to see what we could see.
We pulled over and spotted some juvenile eagles flying way up at the top of the bluff.

See the tree at the top right in the above photo?  It is the same tree in the top photo.  I have a pretty good zoom on this camera.

The holes along the edge of the bluffs seemed to be providing a spot for the eagles.

It was really hard to see the eagles up there though.

Finally a juvenile flew overhead.

The Mississippi was looking quite beautiful in the sunshine.  It was a nippy 41 degrees out there.

Finally an adult bald eage flew over.

Then she landed in a tree.

We drove back to the town of Alton and looked at the antique stores.

Across the street was this pottery.  I loved everything there, but I didn't buy anything.

All in all it was a lovely winter Sunday.

And Happy Birthday to Dandelionmom today.  I believe that she is 29 today.  Or something like that.
